1952 FA Cup celebrations in the city

As in the previous year, the team came back to a rapturous reception in the city, touring the streets in an open topped bus, and greeting the fans at St James’ Park.

As Eliza recalls:

“I can remember when they came back with the Cup. My husband worked in the bank in Grace Street, and we stood in the bank looking out at Joe Harvey and the team holding the Cup!”

Mary says:

"We couldn’t wait for them to come back with the cup, and we always went to the ground, you could get into the ground, and people used to line the streets, because they used to go round, and we’d to wait for them, it was brilliant".
